    “Unfounded 2025 0 2024 0 2023 0”

In plain terms: The table's single "Unfounded" row reports no unfounded crimes in 2023, 2024 or 2025 (one figure per year for the whole table, not per offense or location).

Applies to the report as a whole.

  2. Note 2 · 2026 report, p. 8 (PDF p. 10)

“Domestic Violence Under Illinois law may include dating relationships or roommate relationships”

Applies to the report as a whole.

  3. Note 3 · 2026 report, p. 92 (PDF p. 94); 2025 report, p. 88 (PDF p. 90)

“On-Campus Student Housing Facilities (Subset of On-Campus Geography): Residence halls that are located within on-campus property.”

In plain terms: Residence hall figures are already included in the on-campus figures (the column is headed "Total on Campus (includes CRH)") and must not be added to them.

Applies to the report as a whole.

  4. Note 4 · 2026 report, p. 6 (PDF p. 8)

“Incidents of crime for the University of Chicago’s main campus in Hyde Park and the Downtown Chicago Gleacher Center are reflected in Tables 1–3 on pages 7–11 and include crime statistics from 2023, 2024, and 2025. Statistics were gathered from UCPD reports, Chicago Police Department reports, and reports made by Campus Security Authorities.”

In plain terms: The figures come from University of Chicago Police reports, Chicago Police reports and reports to campus officials designated to receive them. The Gleacher Center has its own table (Table 3), not entered here.

Applies to the report as a whole.

  5. Note 5 · 2025 report, p. 7 (PDF p. 9)

“There were zero (0) unfounded reports in 2022, 2023, and 2024.”

In plain terms: No reports in the table were found to be false or baseless (unfounded) in 2022, 2023 or 2024.

Applies to the report as a whole.

  6. Note 6 · 2025 report, p. 6 (PDF p. 8)

  7. Note 7 · 2025 report, p. 7 (PDF p. 9) (marked “*”)

“*The reported crimes of dating violence are also included in the category of forcible sex offenses.”

In plain terms: The report says dating violence incidents are also counted under forcible sex offenses (rape and fondling), so the same incident may appear in both rows; they should not be added together. It does not say how many overlap.

Applies to the report as a whole.

Institutional response

What can be verified from public sources about how the university handles reports.

Title IX process

The University of Chicago handles reports of sexual misconduct under two policies: the Policy on Title IX Sexual Harassment, for conduct that meets the federal Title IX definition and occurs in a University program in the United States, and the broader Policy on Harassment, Discrimination, and Sexual Misconduct for other matters, which the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report says uses the same evidentiary standard and range of sanctions. Reports go to the Title IX Coordinator (the Associate Provost for Equal Opportunity Programs) or her designees at UChicago CARES. After a report, the University gives the person a written summary of rights and options; CARES says it emails outreach about confidential resources, supportive measures and resolution options, and that students need not respond. Formal Title IX complaints are heard by a Title IX Hearing Panel; for a student respondent it generally has five decisionmakers (two faculty, one student, one staff member and a Decisionmaker on Relevance). The report says the formal process is complete in most cases within 60–90 days, which may be extended for good cause with written notice.SourcesUniversityThe University of Chicago Policy on Title IX Sexual HarassmentUniversity of Chicago (Student Manual)Open sourceFree to readArchived copyRetrieved October 12, 2026Student Manual text of the Policy on Title IX Sexual Harassment; page ends "Policy last updated: October 2, 2024". • Police investigation of an alleged sexual assault at a fraternity house near the University of Chicago

A woman reported that she was sexually assaulted during a party at the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity's Lambda chapter house, near the University of Chicago campus, early on October 11, 2026. Chicago police are investigating with the University of Chicago Police Department. The woman is not affiliated with the university. In its community alert, the university said fraternities are not recognized student organizations, but that students who belong to them remain subject to university policies and disciplinary procedures. Alpha Epsilon Pi's national headquarters said it had told the chapter not to hold events while the investigation is pending. As of October 12, 2026, no arrest had been reported, according to the sources reviewed.
